Clan Systems

Revitalizing clan systems or family representatives will provide Indigenous nations with the ability to establish legislative assemblies that will develop laws based on their Inherent and Treaty rights.

This provides an alternative to the currently imposed Indian Act system and equals the playing field for Indigenous rights holders to be meaningfully included within the governance of their nations.

Revitalizing Traditional Governing Systems

  • Clan Systems

Some nations will prefer a traditional clan system to revitalize their traditional governing practices to honour their ancestral legal systems. Here, traditional ceremonies will be utilized to resurge the natural governing bodies of Indigenous nations and provide an alternative or supplementary support to the current governing systems.

  • Family Representatives

Some nations will prefer a family representative system where every family on the nation is empowered to elect their own family leader or spokesperson. This elected family leader will join the nations legislative assembly and carry the issues of their family forward to govern the nation.
